Richard Woody Woodruff, 90, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, May, 5, 2012 at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center in Marshalltown, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at St Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St Henrys with a 7:00 p.m. vigil. Memorials may be directed to St Henrys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. He was the son of Dorothy Ledegar Woodruff Miller andMartin Harry Woodruffand Fred Miller. Richard Woody grew up in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and graduated from Aquinas High School with the class of 1940. He had participated in many sports and school activities. Woody married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Muetze, on August 30, 1941 at St Johns Catholic Church in La Crosse. This union was blessed with five children. Woody worked for Autolite and Marshalltown Manufacturing Companies for many years and after retiring, he and Mary Ann lived happily for 27 years in Arizona. In recent years Woody and Mary Ann returned to Marshalltown on Arlington Drive and for the last four years he had lived in the care of his son Mark and daughter-in-law Cathy and their family. While his children were in school Woody was active in the Catholic Church and School communities where they resided. Woody served our country honorably in the United States Army serving in WWII; he was also a member of StHenry's Catholic Church and active in the Knights of Columbus, 3rd and 4th degrees.Left to cherish Woodys memory are his children; Mary Lou Grier Speas of Phoenix, Arizona, sons; Richard D. (Sharon) Woodruff of Osage, Iowa, Mark (Cathy) Woodruff, Steve Woodruff all of Marshalltown, 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, sister-in-laws: Dorothy Opitz, Beverly Fredrickson, Shirley Gentile, Lois Muetze, and brother-in law, Fred Muetze and many nieces and nephews.Woody was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ann, a son Timothy P. Woodruff, a brother HaroldWoodruff,brothers-in law: Bill Fredrickson, Paul Muetze Jr., Tony Gentile and Bob Opitz, sister-in-law, Donna Muetze, mother and father-in-laws Anne K. and Paul Muetze Sr., Aunt Sophie May and other aunts, uncles and cousins.
