Rick Teckenburg, age 71, of Union, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 9, 2025.


Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Tuesday, January 14th from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the South Hardin Recreation Area in Union. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora, IA with lunch following at the church. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Union Library, South Hardin Recreation Area or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Eldora. Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown has been entrusted to care for Rick and his family. Rick Earl Teckenburg was born July 13, 1953, in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the son of Richard “Dick” and Lois (Gould) Teckenburg. Rick attended Union-Whitten High School and graduated with the class of 1971. On September 22, 1973, he married the love of his life, Mollie (Journy) Teckenburg, in Loves Park, Illinois. Rick and Mollie were married for 51 years. They soon made their home in Union, IA, where Rick worked as an assistant controller at the Key Cooperative in Roland. He was also a 20-year volunteer ambulance driver in the Union area. During the 1980’s he had a business with Mike Ditka Coach of the Chicago Bears and was co-owner of Iron Mike Clothing Apparel Company. In his free time, Rick enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. He was a very proud Papa who enjoyed following his grandchildren’s successes. Rick was also an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.


He is survived by his wife, Mollie (Journy) Teckenburg; his children: Theresa (Brian) Siegert and Garrick Teckenburg; grandchildren: Tayiah (Tanner), Kyah, Owen, Evan, Aaron, Alexa, Adele, Adrian and Edie; his brother, Danny (Bobbie) Teckenburg, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Judy Teckenburg, Leslie Wise, Laurie Vieth, Jane Brook, Tim (Diana) Journy, Lee (Bob) Conzen, Ann (Brent) Rogers, Tom (Jill) Journy; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Rick is preceded in death by his parents Dick and Lois Teckenburg, in-laws Jim and Marge Journy, his brothers: Butch and Wayne Teckenburg, and his brothers-in-law: Kirk and Martin Journy. He is also predeceased by Kristin Teckenburg, Marilyn Teckenburg, Mike Wise, Ray Vieth Jr., Geoffrey Brook and great nephew baby Jakob James Teckenburg.
