At about age one, Rick was adopted by Jesse and Altha (Lester) James of Fort Worth. After graduation from Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Of the various bases Rick was assigned to, his favorite assignment was at Hickman Air Force Base, Honolulu, Hawaii. Rick immediately fell in love with the sun and surf of Hawaii. One of his favorite pastimes was to visit Kuhio and Waikiki Beaches, in view of the historic Diamond Head Crater, or to hang out at the base of Diamond Head and try his hand at surfing the Diamond Head Beach Park. Rick hoped to one day revisit his beloved Hawaii.During his tenure in the Air Force, it was then Rick found his passion for computer programming. After leaving the Air Force, Rick pursued his dream for programming by attending DeVry Institute of Technology, Irving, Texas, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude on the 23rd of February, 1990 with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems. Over the years, Rick worked for various companies writing computer programs. He worked for companies all over the nation, finally settling in Marshalltown, Iowa.Regardless of where Rick called home, one thing he never lost was his passion for his hobbies. Rick loved bowling, billiards, darts, and especially enjoyed karaoke; because it was through karaoke he met his fianc Shirley. One of Ricks greatest passions was of all animals, which was evident by how he spoiled and pampered his cherished Westies (dogs), Whisper and Romeo. With Ricks Christian beliefs he said, Everyday I wake up alive is a new spiritual awakening for me Rick believed in loving totally, and laughter, and creatures of all kinds above ground or in the waters of our Earth. Rick felt that people should always embrace life and just do what the Good Lord lets us (in the time we have) to do. He considered himself blessed to have found and have Shirley in his life. Rick believed that one should try to help others where you can, stay away from trouble, (and) be true to yourself.Rick was the first to admit, You will certainly find I have one warped sense of humor, at least I try to add humor when I can. Rick affirmed, I will do anything and everything in my power to protect people, animals, (and) homes, when it is needed.Rickey Lee James is survived by: One son o Daniel Lawrence James and daughter-in-law Amanda Leann James of Granbury, Texas, Two daughters o Christina Leigh Cantrell and son-in-law Cody Cantrell of Fort Wainwright, Alaska, and o Martika Virginia-Nicole Dickerson of Arlington, Texas Fianc o Shirley Borton of Marshalltown, Iowa Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and many friendsRickey Lee James was preceded in death by: His Father o Jesse James His Mother o Altha (Lester) James His oldest son o Gordon Lee JamesA memorial visitation and gathering will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home at 1209 Iowa Avenue West, Marshalltown, Iowa, 50158, Phone: 641.844.1234Psalm 31:5 (NIV) 5) Into Your hands I commit my spirit; deliver me, Lord, my faithful God http://memorialwebsites.legacy.com/Rickey-James/Homepage.aspx
