Ricky Monk, 59, of State Center, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at home while under the care of his loving family and Iowa River Hospice. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, West Marshall Chapel in State Center, Iowa. Ricky Edwin Monk was born on August 12, 1957 in Corning, Iowa; he was the son of Ronald and Beverly (Gaule) Monk. Ricky attended school in the Marshalltown Community School District. On August 24, 1991, Ricky was united in marriage to Shelly Hirnichek in Melbourne, Iowa and they had resided and raised their family in State Center, Iowa. Ricky had been a carpenter his entire working career. He loved to fish, camp, enjoyed the outdoors, motorcycles, music, dancing, visiting with good friends and had a great love for life and his family. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 25 years, Shelly; children, Zack (Courtney Howe) Monk of State Center, Nicki (Jami Riemenschnieder) Monk of State Center, Iowa; parents, Ronald and Beverly Monk of Marshalltown; siblings, Rod (Carol) Monk of Marshalltown, Iowa, Rocky (Lissa) Monk of Marshalltown, Cindy (Chuckie) Bennett of Marshalltown, Rusty (Annette) Monk of Marshalltown, Roger (Sandy) Monk of Marshalltown; and many nieces nephews and friends. In death Ricky rejoins his sister and brother-in-law, Linda and John Diggins; brother, Randy Monk; and mother-in-law, Char Hirnichek and many friends.
