Rita Edel

Rita C. Edel, age 91, of Marshalltown, passed away Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 19 at St. Francis of Assisi Parish – St. Henry’s Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be Monday from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where a Vigil Service will be held at 7 p.m. with a Rosary following. Rita was born on November 29, 1927 in Marshalltown, IA, the daughter of Anthony and Teresa (Coyne) Quinn. She grew up in Marshalltown and graduated from St. Mary’s High School. On September 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Roger Edel. The couple lived in Marshalltown and were blessed with eight children. Roger and Rita enjoyed their large circle of friends and family. They were involved in their children’s schools, Knights of Columbus and parish life. Rita became a Realtor® and loved interacting with both buyers and sellers. After Roger passed away Rita moved to the Embers where she was able to reconnect with old friends and make new ones. Eighteen months ago Rita moved into her daughter Carol’s home and had a comfortable living arrangement there. Rita passed peacefully and into the hands of the Lord after a very brief illness. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Anthony (Carol) Edel; Donald Edel; Thomas (Jeanine) Edel; Lawrence (Sveta) Edel; Mary Ellen (Tom) Skorczeski; David (Kathy) Edel; and Carol Geil and fiancé Jeremy Park; fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. In eternal life, Rita is reunited with her parents, husband Roger, and her son Richard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts toward Iowa River Hospice or the Iowa Veterans’ Home Chaplain’s office.
