Rita "Kay" Sickles

Rita “Kay” Sickles, 75, of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022. Friends and family are invited to a visitation for Kay on Monday, February 21 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Born Rita Kay Martin on September 26, 1946 in Greenville, Texas, she was the daughter of Medford and Evareta (Mays) Martin. In her early years, her family relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she graduated from Wilson High School in 1964. After meeting the love of her life, Donald “Donnie” Sickles, they were united in marriage on October 10, 1964. The young couple moved to Marshalltown that same year, where they raised their children and had since called “home.” Kay was a dedicated wife and mother and worked hard to keep their home. She enjoyed playing solitaire, shopping with her sister-in-law and partner in crime, Shirley and cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes. She also liked birds and butterflies and keeping up with her neighbors. Kay loved to laugh and make others laugh and more than anything else she enjoyed visiting with her grandkids and family gatherings. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Donna (Cheryl Crumley) Sickles, Bob (Jenny) Sickles and John (Lori) Sickles; grandchildren: Josh, Miakayla, Austin, Sarah, Eric, Emily, Molly, Shayla and Becca; her brother: Ronnie (Judy) Nicholson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Leroy and Shirley Olsen; two sisters-in-law: Judy Martin and Florence Brown and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In eternal life, she is reunited with her beloved husband, Donnie, less than five months after his passing; her son, Donald “Junior” Sickles; her parents, Medford and Evareta and two siblings: Pam Martin and Marty Martin.
