Robert “Bob” Wild Harrison, of Brooklyn, IA, longtime Tama funeral director, died unexpectedly Tuesday evening, October 30th, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center ER at the age of 78. A gathering to honor Bob’s life will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Friday, November 2nd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Born on January 25th, 1940, in Marshalltown, he was one of two sons born to Robert C. and Ruth (Wild) Harrison. He grew up in his father’s funeral home (formerly grandfather’s) in Tama, later operating it for 40 years until retiring in 2007. He also owned and operated Harrison Furniture and Harrison Floral in Tama. Bob graduated from the Tama High School, Marshalltown Community College and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Bob loved the Tama community and was honored as their 2005 Citizen of the Year. He was active in the volunteer fire department (fire chief two terms) and operated the ambulance many years. He was a rarity in business as a third generation business owner. On August 17th, 1959, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joyce Urhammer, in Pocatello, Idaho. They made Tama their home all their married lives until retiring full time to Holiday Lake at Brooklyn. Bob was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Tama, the Tama United Methodist Church, Tama Fire Department, Masonic Lodge, Consistory, El Kahir Shrine, and past Iowa Funeral Directors Association. Celebrating his memory are Joyce, his loving wife of nearly 60 years,; daughter Candace (Jeff) Tichy, grandchildren J.R. Tichy (Jeni with Aubree and Easton) and Arianna (Logan with Ryker and Reed), great-granddaughter Adalynn, and many other family and friends. In death, Bob rejoined his parents and brother, John.
