Robert “Bob” Hartwig, 91, of Marshalltown, Iowa passed away at Unity Point Health in Marshalltown, on Friday, March 9, 2018. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 16, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 with a Vigil and Rosary at 7:00 p.m.at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date. Military Honors will be provided by the combined VFW/ American Legion Honor Guard. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Robert and his family.Robert Louis Hartwig was born at home in rural Marshall County; he was the son of Earl and Ruth (Hennis) Hartwig. Robert was educated in the St. Anthony School District graduating with the Class of 1944. Bob honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1945 until 1947. On November 22, 1950, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life Rosella Kunkel at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Haverhill, Iowa; they had lived in Marshalltown their entire married life. Bob had worked at Fisher Controls as a Foreman and retired in 1986 after 39 years of faithful service. For many years he also was a farmhand for a close family friend while working at Fisher. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. Bob loved to FISH!!!!! He made lures, enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, camping, and loved anytime with his family.Left to cherish Bob’s memory is his wife of 67 years, Rosella; his children: Ronald (Mary) Hartwig of Marshalltown, Randy (Marlene) Hartwig, of Marshalltown, Rosanne (Dan) Anderson of Marshalltown, Ricky Hartwig of Blaine, Minnesota, Raelene (Mike) Sommerlot of Marshalltown, Rob (Patricia Rios) Hartwig of Mesa, Arizona and Renae (Steve) Williams of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania; grandchildren: Chad (Tammie), Ryan (Crystal), Kelly (Ben), Matt (Jamie), Tim (Kelly), Melissa (Clint), Tena (Simon), Terah, Tyler and Trey; 13 great grandchildren (plus 1 on the way) and 3 great- great-grandchildren. In death, Bob rejoins his parents, Earl and Ruth Hartwig.
