Robert Boeyink, age 88 of Marshalltown, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
Robert Louis Boeyink was born the eldest child of Henry L. and Dororthy (Van der Brake) Boeyink on November 20, 1937 in Sioux Center, IA. He graduated from Sioux Center High School continued his education at Westmar College, where he earned a B.A. degree in Banking and Finance. Robert served in the United States Army where he performed in the Army Band and was Honorably Discharged in 1966.
On January 6, 1962, Robert was united in marriage with the love of his life, Barbara Jo Newendorp, in Alton, IA. Together they began a family of their own raising three sons, Jeffrey, Gregory, and Andrew. Robert resided in Marshalltown for nearly 60 years.
Bob was a finish carpenter and later a construction supervisor at R.D. Stewart Inc. There are numerous buildings in Marshalltown and on the campus of Iowa State University and Grinnell College that bear the quality of his work, to mention a few.
He was a talented woodworker who could make nearly anything and often built furniture for his family members. Bob was an avid reader, and enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. Bob’s top priority was spending time with his family, whether visits with his children and grandchildren or going fishing with his brothers.
Bob was an active and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown. He spent decades in the church choir and served in numerous leadership roles in the church. He was also an active member of Alcoholic Anonymous, helping countless people over the years to overcome addiction; he proudly received his 50-year sobriety chip the day of his passing.
In death, Bob is reunited with his wife of 60 years, Barbara; and his daughter-in-law, Janet. Left to cherish his memory are his sons: Jeffrey (Maria), Gregory (Maureen), and Andrew (Jennifer); grandchildren: Alissa, James, Nick, Emily, Julia, Kathleen, Zachary, Noah, Susanna, and Lucas; and great-grandchildren: Olivia, Charlotte, Carter, Audrey, and Korben. He is also survived by his brothers and their families: Joel Boeyink, David Boeyink, and Mark Boeyink; and his caregiver of many years, Jennifer Anderson.
Per Bob and his family’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Family-led services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown.
Mitchell Family Funeral Home has been entrusted to care for Bob and his family. To leave online condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Ph. 641-844-1234.
