Robert A. Burgess, 59, of LaMoille, died early Thursday morning, October 3, in the peace of his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 8th, at the Fellowship Baptist Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Ed Hannahs officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Elmwood Cemetery at LaMoille. Visitation will be held from 4-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to his family. Born Robert Allan Burgess on June 5th, 1954, in Marshalltown, he was one of four children born to Albert Morris and Betty Lou (Anderson) Burgess. He graduated from the West Marshall High Schools Class of 1972 and later Hawkeye Tech in 1974. On June 12th, 1982, he was united in marriage to Mina Balvanz at the Bangor Liberty Friends Church in Bangor. They shared 31 wonderful years of marriage and resided in Bangor, Beaman (from 1983 to 2003) and most currently LaMoille. Robert owned and operated Beaman Auto Repair and later worked for Gillund Enterprises until his retirement in 2010. Bob was a faithful member of Fellowship Baptist Church and enjoyed working and keeping busy. He greatly enjoyed the challenge of repairing anything that came his way. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, and playing the guitar. He loved and cherished his grandchildren and teasing them made his day. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Mina, his children: Barb (Matt) Pickar of New Hampton, Alan (Jessica) Burgess of Waverly and Jesse (Ashley) Burgess of Newton; grandchildren- Preston, Megan, Jackie, Jay and Nicholas Pickar, McKenna and Cameo Burgess and Malachi and Abraham Burgess; mom Betty, his siblings- Ron (Debbie) Burgess of Cedar Rapids, Denny (Marcia) Burgess of Gilman and Jodi (Tom) Hilleman of Rhodes as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, he has rejoined his father Albert, granddaughter Jessica and grandson baby Perry.
