Robert "Bob" Burris

February 13, 1932 — March 25, 2024

Robert “Bob” Burris, 92, of Marshalltown and formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on the morning of Monday, March 25, 2024 at the Iowa Veteran’s Home.

Robert Eugene Burris was born February 13, 1932 in Mason City, Iowa. He was the third of six children born to John and Emily (Younke) Burris. Robert attended school in Mason City, Iowa before being drafted into the United State Marine Corps. He served with the Marines Corps until 1958 and then enlisted in the United States Army where he served until 1962 when he was honorably discharged. After the service, Bob retuned home to Mason City and worked for Lehigh Smith Plant for a number of years and some time at a meat packing plant. His final job before retirement was being an ice delivery truck driver.


Bob was a member of the V.F.W., while he didn’t attend the meetings, he always kept up his membership. Bob in younger years loved to go bowling and was a huge fan of the John Wayne movies and enjoyed spending time with his extended family.


He is survived by his sister, Ruth Ann (Bill) Hermans and numerous nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Emily Burris; and his siblings, Frank Burris, Margaret Prohaska, Rose Waters, and Joyce Boyke.
