Robert Wayne Crossman, 73, of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.The family will host a memorial service Sunday, March 10, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.mitchellfh.com.Robert, better known as Bob, was born in Portage, Wis. on New Years Day, Jan. 1, 1940, to Clarence and Dorothy (Preuss) Crossman. He was a 1958 graduate of Portage High School.After high school, Bob went into sales hocking everything from cars to electrical supplies during his 45-year career. He retired from Electric Supply of Marshalltown in 2002. He made and sold vinyl signs through Alley Sign Works in the years after his retirement.Bob loved NASCAR, restoring old street rods and his family.He is survived by his brothers, Ron (Lynn) Crossman of Seminole, Fla. and Ric (Annette) Crossman of Burlington, Vt.; three children, Pam (Gene) Olson of Ankeny; Randy (Stacy) Crossman of Des Moines and Jody (Tim) Gifford of West Des Moines; and seven grandchildren, Morgan Olson of Coralville, Taylor Olson of Ames, Brandon Crossman of Marshalltown, Jacob Crossman of Des Moines, and Sadie, Molly and Sam Gifford all of West Des Moines. He is also survived by his partner, Patty Hansen of Marshalltown.Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Dorothy Crossman.The family would like to thank the staff at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines and Mercy Hospice in Johnston where he received extraordinary care during his final months and days.
