Robert D Anderson

Robert “Bob” D. Anderson was born September 2, 1933, the son of Charles B. Anderson and Lorine Anderson at home in rural Beaman. He joined older sisters Phyllis and Lorna. In his youth, Bob lived in Beaman, Garwin and Green Mountain. He returned to Beaman and graduated high school in 1952. After high school, Bob was drafted and served in the Army from 1953-1955, serving for one year in Germany.

Bob returned to Beaman to farm and married Sue Burk Anderson in 1956. They had two children, Robin and Melissa. The family moved to Gilman in the 1960’s to continue farming. In addition to farming, Bob was employed for 32 years at Fisher Controls. He was also an employee of the Meskwaki Casino in the Engineering Department. Bob retired from farming and moved to the acreage southeast of Marshalltown where he still resided.

Bob’s greatest joy was raising and riding quarter horses and later mules. Bob was a member of the Gilman Saddle Club for a number of years. He spent many years camping and trail riding with family and friends. He had ridden horses/mules in at least eight states.

Bob is survived by his two daughters, Robin (Steven) Myren and Melissa (Marty) Holmes. He also leaves behind two grandchildren Emily (Sam Runyan) Gomez and Andrew (Brittany) Myren, 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, and his wife, Sue Burk Anderson.

Services for Bob will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025 beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
