Robert Fisher, 84, of State Center, died Friday evening, July 4th, at the MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 8th, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center with Pastor Joan Swander officiating. He will be laid to rest with military honors in the Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday at the church (605 1st Street NE). In lieu of flowers, memorials honoring his memory may be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church or his family. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Born on April 18th, 1930, in Rolfe, Iowa, he was the son and one of three children born to George Lee and Mildred (Bennett) Fisher. He graduated from the Rolfe High School and later attended business school in Chillicothe, Missouri in telegraphy. In 1949, he began a 40 year career with the Chicago-Northwestern RR. On June 24th, 1951, he was united in marriage to Joan Stanfield at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in State Center. In January of the following year, Bob left on active duty in the US Marines Corps to serve in the Korean Conflict. He served our country honorably in Japan and on the USS Valley Forge until returning home in 1954. Bob then rejoined with the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad and worked in many different capacities and depots- lastly in Boone, Iowa. He retired in 1991. Bob also had the honor of serving as Mayor of State Center. Mr. Fisher was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Harlan G. Pfantz American Legion Post #122, the Masonic Lodge and OES and was a certified Winter Texan. He enjoyed old cars, antique power equipment and shows, his pets and treasured his family. Left to cherish his memory are Joan, his loving wife of 63 years, his sons - Richard (Bobbie) Fisher of Troy, Ohio, Ron (Sarah) Fisher of Mason City and Thomas (Denise) Fisher of Little Rock, Arkansas; five grandchildren Jackie, Jared, Rod, Joel and Nicholas and great-grandson Royce. In death, Bob rejoined his parents, an infant son Larry Dean Fisher and siblings Richard and Lorraine.
