He attended school next to the church in Dillon and then LeGrand, where he graduated in 1944. Soon after, he enlisted in the United States Army serving our country honorably in WWII. He formed a bond with army friends that carried through many years in his life as they would meet every two years to share memories. On August 11th, 1946, he was married to the love of his life, Lillian Rasmussen, at the Strand Lutheran Church at Dunbar. They made their home on the highway for ten years until moving to the family homestead where they reside today. Robert farmed and also drove school bus for the LDF/East Marshall Schools. He treasured his family, farming raising cattle and the army meetings, and dearly loved and cherished his bride, Lillian. Family being together was the highlight of his day. Left to cherish his memory are Lillian, his loving wife of 68 years, his three daughters: Elaine (Don) Crouse of Marshalltown, Linda (Mike) Weitzell of LeGrand and Karen Campbell of Marshalltown; three grandchildren- Robert (Hallie) Crouse of Gilman, Ann (Chad) Plowman of Newton and Jenny (Chris) Jones of Marshalltown; seven precious great-grandchildren- Whitaker, Taylor, Cole, Kate, Clara, Riley and Rachel and his only sister, Shirley Ohlschlager of Marshalltown as well as many other family and friends. In death, Robert rejoined his parents and granddaughter, Robin Renee Crouse.
