Robert H. Hansen, 86, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, February 10, 2011, at the Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, at the First United Church of Christ. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Robert was born June 22, 1924, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Leroy and Clara (Otte) Hansen. He was raised and educated in Marshalltown, attending the Marshalltown School System. In 1943 Robert was united in marriage to Virginia Williamson at Bethany, Missouri. Robert honorably served his country during World War II as a demolition specialist within the United States Army. Following his honorable discharge he returned home to Marshalltown and went to work with Kiowa. Robert was employed as a tool maker for several years until retiring at the age of 62. During his retirement years he enjoyed wood working. Most of all Robert loved spending time camping and fishing with his family at both Gladbrook Lake and Pine Lake in Eldora. Above all, Robert was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to his family. He will be greatly missed. Robert is survived by his wife Virginia, of Marshalltown, his two sons: Stephen (Ella) Hansen of Fredericksburg, Virginia and Roy (Carol) Hansen of Grinnell, Iowa, his six grandchildren: Scott, Christine, Joshua, Justin, Joey and Chelsey, his seven great-grandchildren: Jacob, Olivia, Emily, Abigail, Carson, Dylan and Nolan as well as several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mary Ellen Navra and his brother Glen Hansen.
