Robert D. Hass, age 73, of rural Marshalltown, died Monday, July 12, 2010, at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown. Following cremation, a private family burial will be held at the Center School Cemetery in rural Marshalltown. A memorial visitation for Bob will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home on Thursday, July 15, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice House. Bob was born July 27, 1936, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the son of Erwin and Verna Hass. He was raised and educated in the country school system and graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1954. Following graduation Bob enlisted with the United States Army and served his country from 1955-1957. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Bob worked with his father for two years prior to joining Lennox Industries in 1959. On September 10, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Janet at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in the Marshalltown area and have been living on the same family farm since 1966. Bob retired from Lennox Industries in July of 2002 marking 44 years of years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Marshalltown UAW Local 893. Most of all Bob was a creative man who loved spending time on the family farm, splitting wood and also had a genuine love for animals of all types, especially his dogs. Bob is survived by his wife Janet, his two sons; Nick (Cynthia) Hass of Ankeny, and Jason (Jennifer) Hass of Marshalltown, his three grandchildren Zane, Ryan and Emily, his siblings; Shirley (Earl) Bumman of Ida Grove, Iowa, Betty (Pat) OMalley of Santa Barbara, California, John (Susan) Hass of Gulf Breeze, Florida, Carol Hass of Seattle, Washington and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Sylvan, his sister Beverly and his granddaughter Bryton.
