Robert L. Haub

Robert L. Haub, 86, of the Iowa Veterans Home, died there Saturday, November 13, 2010. Funeral services for Robert will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2010, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home, located at 1209 Iowa Avenue West, Marshalltown, Iowa. Burial will follow services at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. Visitation for Robert will be held Wednesday, November 17, from 1:30 p.m. until the time service. Memorial contributions may be directed in Roberts name to the Iowa Veterans Home. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Robert and his family. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com.Robert was born April 8, 1924, in Somers, Iowa the son of Ezra and Eva Haub (Featherstone). He was raised and educated in the Somers, Farnhamville and Dayton, Iowa, areas and graduated from the Dayton High School. Following graduation, Robert honorably served his country during WWII as member of the United States Army. He was primarily stationed in the Philippines as a mechanic. Following his honorable discharge he returned home to Dayton where he met his future wife, Leona Nekvinda. They were married on February 10, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Dayton. To this union four children were born. They later divorced. Throughout his lifetime Robert was self-employed as a tree surgeon, operated a bulldozer and worked on his junkyard. Robert enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting mushrooms and caring for animals who were hurt or crippled. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post #323 of Dayton, Iowa, and the United Brethren Church.Robert is survived by three daughters: Deborah (James) Billings of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, Roberta (Jim) Mitchell of Johnston, Iowa, Raechelle (Marc) Bretz of Solon, Iowa, his son: Daniel (Lynne) Haub of West Branch, Iowa, his sister: Audrey Isles of Ankeny, Iowa, his three brothers: Ralph Haub of Winterset, John (Cindy) Haub of Dayton and Daryl (Donna) Haub of Dayton, Iowa, his eight grandchildren: Danal Gross and Jay Billings, Deanna Green and Linsey McAndrew, Ashley and David Koehnke, Dylan Robert Haub and Tyler William Haub, his great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Devin, Kelsey, Peyton, Grayson and Jace, as well as many nieces and nephews. We, his children offer a special heartfelt thank you to his niece Linda (Glenn) Price of Ankeny, for their endless love and care offered to our Dad.Robert was preceded in death by his parents Ezra and Eva, his sister Vivian and his brother Lyle.
