Robert (Bob) D. Hayes, 81, of Snellville, GA, formerly of Marshalltown, died Saturday, July 3 at the Sharon Richardson Hospice Center in Sheboygan Falls, WI while in the care of his family.Bob was born June 29, 1929 in Marshalltown to Edwin and Martine Hayes. He was educated in Marshalltown and graduated MHS in 1947. After graduation he joined the U.S. Marines, experienced the world and served in the Korean war. After returning from the war he attended college and worked at a variety of jobs, including being a staff writer for the Times Republican, before joining Lennox Industries for a career in sales promotions and advertising, where he worked until he retired as Southeast Division Promotions Manager in Atlanta. His passion was always sports and he played many years of softball, basketball, and tennis in the Marshalltown community, but his greatest joy was golf, beating his son-in-law on the course and passing on this love for the sport to his grandsons Cameron & Cole.In 1984 he and Bonnie moved to Atlanta, GA for his job with Lennox Southeast Division. For the past 26 years, he was very involved with his membership in Summit Chase Country Club in Snellville, GA and for the past couple of years enjoyed his time as a course marshall until his recent move to Wisconsin. Bob liked to spend all of his free time golfing and enjoying the company of his golfing friends. He never missed out on his annual trips to Marshalltown to catch up with his friends at the American Legion and Elmwood Country Club and play a few rounds. In 1962 he was united in marriage to Bonnie Bachman. They enjoyed a wonderful 47 years together traveling and visiting family and friends before her death in October 2009.He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, Jack Hundley and daughter, Jean Bachman. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Hauser; son-in-law, Dave Hauser; grandsons, Cameron & Cole Hauser of Plymouth, Wisconsin; grandsons Stephen & Travis Schossow, great-grandchildren; Jessica, Laken, Campbell, Carsen and Faith Schossow. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 13th, 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown with military honors burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetary.
