Robert W. Bart Liston, 70, of Albion, fought a courageous battle with cancer for 2-1/2 years and died on February 25th at the MMSC with his loving family at his side. A memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2010 (TODAY), at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery at a future date. Military rites will be performed by VFW Post 839. There will be no visitation. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Bart and his family. Ph 641-844-1234. Born on March 27th, 1939, in Marshall County, he was the son of Robert E. and Winifred R. (Fitzgerald) Liston. He attended school in State Center and played football all through school. He attended the University of Iowa prior to being drafted into the United States Army. Bart was stationed in El Paso, TX, and it was there he married Barbara J. Donaldson on July 13th, 1962. He returned from the Army and went to work for Marshalltown Manufacturing until their closing and then Dunham-Bush. Bart owned and operated his own insulation company for several years, raised hogs and was an agent with American Family Insurance. He was a hard-working, family oriented man who never sat still for very long and was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a councilman in Albion for several years. Bart was blessed with his loving wife of 47 years, Barbara, his children: Shawn (Eddy) Yuen of Honolulu, HI, Brent (Shelley) Liston of Shawnee, KS, Chip (Lynette) Liston of Marshalltown; five grandchildren- Anastasia, Robert Caden, Hadley and Lyla Liston and Lynde. Also surviving are his sisters Anne Liston (Kurt) Faxon of Savannah, GA and Debbie Liston (Ted) Beer of Leawood, KS as well as several nieces, nephews, his mother-in-law Leona Ennis of Marshalltown, sisters-in-law Joan (Jim) Tough, Pat (Ken) Sorenson and Judy Vokoun (Loyd Perry) and a host of friends. He always enjoyed being with his cousins and having a wonderful time.In death, Bart rejoined his parents Winifred and Bob, son Todd Patrick Liston who died in 1971, brother James (Maurine) Liston in 2005, fathers-in-law Swede Donaldson and Clifford Ennis and his grandparents on both sides.
