Robert Lyons

Robert Lyons, 73, of Marshalltown and Lake Ponderosa at Montezuma, died Saturday morning, July31, 2010, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Robert Ellis Lyons was born on August 25,1936, to Clifford Vincent and Hulda Mae (Sublett) Lyons. He was educated in the area of his birth. He served our country honorably in the Navy from 1954 to 1963. Bob had been a security guard, the job that brought him to Marshalltown, and worked at Sears, HyVee, and Super 8 Motel in Marshalltown. He had lived in the Marshalltown and Montezuma areas. He enjoyed the pontoon on Lake Ponderosa, reading, old western movies, and his dog Hooter. Left to cherish his memory are his companion of 23 years, Beverly Lynch; his children: Bonnie (Gordie) Larson of Blair, Nebraska, Victor Lyons and Timothy Lyons, both of Alabama, Lisa (Russell) Gibson of Dexter, Iowa, Beverlys children Dawn Carver of Sugar Grove, Illinois, David (Cindi) Lynch of Grinnell, and Deanne Lynch of Marshalltown; his 14 grandchildren; and his 14 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way.Robert was preceded in death by his parents, brother Vincent Jr. and Beverlys father, Wendell Robertson.
