Robert Matheson, 90, of Sun Prairie, WI, died Saturday afternoon, August 12th, at the New Perspective Senior Living in Sun Prairie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held one-hour prior to the services. Robert was born on April 11th, 1927, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Thompson and Anna (Hauschildt) Matheson. He graduated from Green Mountain High School in 1945. He joined US Navy and served our country honorably from May 14th, 1945, until August 1, 1946 in WWII as part of the Greatest Generation. He married Betty Kjormoe in 1949 to which two children were born, Douglas and Connie. They were later divorced. On June 29th, 1978, he was united in marriage to Donna M. (Schmidt) Venenga in Reinbeck, Iowa. They moved to Jefferson, Iowa where he worked as commercial manager for Iowa Electric & Power Company until retiring in 1990. His memberships include Jefferson Elks Lodge, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, El Kahir Shrine, Order of Eastern Star, and United Methodist Church. He enjoyed playing cards and golfing and enjoyed the winter months in Arizona with Donna. He is survived by his wife, Donna Matheson; daughter, Connie (Bill) Smith; stepchildren, Janelle (Randy) LaBounty and Jay (Pam) Venenga; grandchildren: Robert Smith, Christopher (Bailey) Smith, Amber Matheson, Brad Venenga, Jadi Leisen, Shelby Venenga, Tyler Venenga, Leslie (Peter) Merzian, Michelle LaBounty and Robyn LaBounty; great grandchildren, Landon and Lawson Leyendecker, Neiko and Krislynn Dowling, and Haiden and Adyson Leisen. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Matheson; and granddaughter, Crystal Leyendecker.
