Robert Bob Nanke, 60, of Marshalltown, died Monday night, April 14, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at St. John United Church of Christ in Melbourne with Pastor Linda Schmidt officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Melbourne Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday. For condolences, please visit www.mitchellfh.com. Memorials may be directed to St. John UCC, Melbourne, or to the House of Compassion, Marshalltown Born on August 26th, 1947, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, he was the son of Claude and Nina (Just) Nanke. He was raised near What Cheer and graduated from Tri-County High School in 1965. After that time, he graduated from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines and later received his B.A. in Accounting from the University of Iowa. Bob served our country honorably from 1967 to 1971 in the United States Army, serving with the Army Security Agency in Arlington, VA and in Ethiopia.On August 29th, 1970, at St. John UCC in Melbourne, he was united in marriage to Judy Ficken, the daughter of Paul and Pearl (Bollenbacher) Ficken. They made their home in Arlington, VA while he was in the service and returned to Iowa to live at Iowa City/Coralville while attending U of I. The couple also made their home in Waverly and Jefferson before settling in Marshalltown in 1980. Bob was a CPA and worked for public accounting firms in Tipton, Waverly, Jefferson and Marshalltown before establishing his own practice in 1987. He retired in 2002. He also worked as night auditor at the Best Western Regency Inn, Marshalltown, from 1987 to 2003. Mr. Nanke was a member of the Iowa Society of CPAs, American Institute of CPAs, St. John UCC and the Noon Lions Club. Bob enjoyed volunteering as treasurer for St. John UCC and at the House of Compassion.Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy, his daughters Kristin Nanke (fianc Adam Haar) of Grimes, Kimberly (Brian) Abels of Ellsworth, brother James, sister Janice, his father-in-law Paul Ficken of Melbourne. In death Bob has rejoined his parents and mother-in-law, Pearl Ficken.
