Robert Elgin Paul

Robert Elgin Paul, age 76, formerly of Marshalltown, currently residing in Kansas City, Missouri, died Monday, November 1, 2011, at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.A celebration of life for Robert will be held from 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Roberts family will be present to greet friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to Hickman Mills Community Christian Church, 5809 East Red Bridge Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64134. For further information or to send a condolence please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641) 844-1234. Bob was born on Aug 22, 1935, in Marshalltown, Iowa to Elgin and Veda (Gile) Paul. He was raised and educated in Laurel and Marshalltown. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1953, where he served for 3 years in the Korean War. Bob was united in marriage to Margaret Thomas on June 28, 1958, in Albion, Iowa. He worked for Fire Apparatus on Highway 30 once released from the Marines. He then served as a police officer in Marshalltown from 1959 to 1963, Second Deputy Sheriff from 1963 to 1965, First Deputy Sheriff from 1965 to 1967, and Marshall County Sheriff from 1967 to 1968. He then operated a Standard station on Anson Street and later worked at Fisher Controls until retiring in 1993.After retiring, he moved to Guthrie, OK to be close to one of his daughters and several grandsons. He married Barbara Dreessen on June 24, 2006, at which time he relocated to her residence in Kansas City, MO. In retirement, he enjoyed showing off his 1936 Chevy, playing guitar, riding horses, renovating, and spending time with family and friends. Bob was also actively involved with the Marine Corp League - Kansas City Detachment 766 and the Hickman Mills Community Christian Church. Bob will be missed by his wife, Barbara, of Kansas City; two daughters, Vickie (Manooch) Kahkesh of Edmond, OK, and Laurie (Lindle) Merriss of Ankeny, IA; two sons, Mark Paul of Dubuque, IA, and Kenneth Paul of Marshalltown, IA; 3 step daughters, Tracy (Randy) Dalton, Sherri (Bryan) Watson, Marcy (Harold) McAdams; 2 brothers, Richard Paul and James Paul and a sister, Pamela Ryner-Ford, all of Marshalltown, IA; plus 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Both of his parents preceded Bob in death, as well as his beloved dog Reba.
