Robert Charles Plunkett, 88, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday May 21, 2014, at the Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services for Bob will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2014, at St Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Public visitation will be held on Sunday, May 25, 2014, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service to follow at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Bob Plunkett was born on January 7, 1926, at St Thomas Hospital in Marshalltown to John Joseph and Bessie Green Plunkett. Bob graduated from St Marys High School in 1944. After his education; Bob joined the United States Marine Corp serving in World War II until he was honorably discharged in 1946. On March 31, 1955, Bob was united in marriage to Dolores Kaufmann at St Marys Catholic Church. After the service; Bob briefly became a part owner of the Old Timer Tavern. Bob then went on to work for Marshalltown Trowel Company as a shipping clerk until his retirement in 1988. After retirement Bob worked at the Knights of Columbus Hall as a custodian and at Swifts. Bob was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, Elmwood Country Club and American Legion golf course. Bob was an avid golfer and earned numerous trophies. He also liked bowling and went camping at the Iowa State Fair every year. Bob especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family. Left to cherish his memory is his children: Vicky (Ken) Wall of Marshalltown and Jeff (Diane) Plunkett of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Josh (Sara) Wall of Ray, Minnesota, Stacey (Matt) Lundquist of Waukee, Jarod (Melissa Whitlow) Wall of Denver, Colorado, April (Wes) Myers of Omaha, Nebraska, Lyndsey (Nick) Jansen of Marshalltown, Taryn Plunkett of Marshalltown and Shay Scholtes of Des Moines. Nine grandchildren and a niece Cindy Billman of Marshalltown. Bob is preceded in death by his wife Dolores, his parents, brother Edward Charlie Plunkett, brother in law Rollie Billman and a sister in law Katherine Billman.
