Robert Bob Polley, 62, of Marshalltown, died late Thursday night, January 31, at the MMSC. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 5th, at the Center Street Baptist Church with Pastors Greg Boyle and Bobby Shomo officiating. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Bob and his family- ph. 641-844-1234. Born on January 15, 1951, in Eldora, Iowa, he was the son of Charles and Irene (DeSchamp) Polley. He graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1969 and later MCC and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, MO. earning his BA degree. On June 23, 1972, he was united in marriage to Sandra Sandy Groeneveld at the 1st Baptist Church in Eldora. They made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives where he was employed at the Marshalltown Savings and Loan, then Marshalltown Savings Bank at the time of his retirement. He began his lifelong career in banking as a teller and money transporter at Commercial Bank while in high school, and then later went on to be a loan officer and Vice-President at Marshalltown Savings Bank. Bob was a faithful member of the Center Street Baptist Church and shared in the ministry of hospitality to all. He would often call others to check on them and wish them well. Bob enjoyed hunting, leather-crafting, reading, music and could talk to anyone. He will be greatly missed for his caring, loving spirit by all who knew him. God blessed Bob with his family- Sandy, his loving wife of 40 years, son Aaron (Angie) Polley and their children Kalyn and Hunter of Marshalltown, daughter Megan (Ben) Johnson and their children-Grace, Chloe and Kate all of Marshalltown; his mother Irene Polley of the Grandview Heights Care Facility in Marshalltown, siblings- David (Lee) Polley of Norwalk, Stephen Polley of Tulsa and Marlene Mirian of Urbandale, his father-in-law Dean Groeneveld of Marshalltown, sisters- and brothers-in-law- Denise (William) Bogan of Union, LuAnn (Bruce) Lawrence of Marshalltown and Darin Groeneveld (Theresa Williams) of Marshalltown as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family. In death, he rejoined his dad, Charlie, who died on April 29, 2010, his grandparents, mother-in-law Helen Groeneveld and sister-in-law Chris Polley.
