He proudly served our country in the United States Navy in the Korean War aboard the USS De Haven. While working at the Security Bank in Manning, his eye caught a young lady making a deposit for the local church. A young Delores Winterhof had just moved to Manning to work at the church after the encouragement of a pastor she had worked for in Paullina, Iowa. It was faithful destiny and the rest is history. The couple was united in marriage on March 3rd, 1957, in Galva, IA.In March of 1958, they moved to their home at Marietta (west of Marshalltown). Bob worked at Marshalltown Manufacturing as personnel manager for over 20 years and then the Iowa Veterans Home for over 15 years in the security department. Mr. Popp was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, AMVETS, American Legion, and VFW and served as national commander of the Legion of Guardsmen (LOG). He was also recipient of the Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award. Left to cherish his memory are Delores, his loving wife of 62 years, son Keith (Cathy) Popp of LeMars, IA, granddaughters Lisa Harpenau of Ankeny and her children- Henri, Seth and Olivia; Tamie Britt of LeMars and her children-Nicholle, Aaron and Anna; his brother Richard (Marilyn) Popp of Bradenton, FL, numerous nieces and nephews, daughter-in-law Cindy Davies of Marshalltown and grandsons Nick and Corbin of Austin, TX, special friends Bruce and Jackie, and numerous brothers of the Navy and honor guard.
