He was raised and educated in the Ferguson school district, graduating from Ferguson High School in 1943. Following high school Bob honorably served his country joining the United States Marine Corp. Bob has learned over his 90 years that you are a Marine for life. Bobs campaign included the battle for the islands Saipan, Tinian, and Guam. Raising the American flag on Iwo Jima is one of the most enduring images in American history. Bob was 200 yards away watching people he knew make that happen. He earned a Purple Heart. On June 15th, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to the love of his life, Doris White at the Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. From this union four children were born: Steven, Mark, Mary and LeaAnn. Bob was a hardworking man dedicating twenty-two years with the United States Post office. Bob was a proud 70 year member of the VFW. He also received an award for being part of the Iowa Rural Letter Association for 50 years. Bob was active in many other activities such as The Forty and Eight, Lions Club, Marine Corp League and was a Mason. He was a member of the Frank Lewis Glick American Legion Post #46 and the Harry C. Harter VFW Post #839. He had a passion for his family, dancing, golfing and mowing his lawn. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Steven (Ann) Randall, Mark (Linda) Randall, Mary (Marley) Davis and LeaAnn (Dudley) Henry; grandchildren: Lisa (Tony) Nikkel, Darcy (Pete) Drury, Amy (Jeff) Moffatt, Kristin Randall and four step-grandchildren; great-grandchildren: Mason, Mallory, and Madden Nikkel, Carson Moffatt, with baby brother on the way, Cael Drury and nine step-great-grandchildren; one brother: Richard Dick Randall; sister-in-law: Josephine White and special friend, Helen Wulf.
