Robert L. Reynolds

Robert L. Les Reynolds, 88, of Nevada, Iowa, died Sunday, March 20, 2011, at the Story County Hospital in Nevada. Graveside funeral services for Les will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens in Marshalltown. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Robert and his family, (641)844-1234.Les was born October 19, 1922, in Villisca, Iowa, the son of Robert Ray and Neva (Orm) Reynolds. He was raised and educated in Villisca and went on to honorably serve his country during World War II as a member of the United States Army. During his time of service Robert was a Sergeant, specializing in communications and was responsible for helping secure and installing phone lines in several countries. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Les returned home and completed a degree in business from Drake University. During his time in Des Moines, Les met his Hollywood Sweetheart at the Meadow Gold dairy in Des Moines. On January 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Norma Schmidt in Des Moines. Les spent his working career in the insurance and real estate businesses. He worked for Oliver Corporation and Wind Power. During their lives together they resided in Des Moines, Newton, Spencer, Royal, and Okoboji, Iowa until moving to Sedona and later Sun City, Arizona. The couple moved to Nevada, Iowa, in 2002, to be near their family.Les was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Post # 48, the Lions Club, the Methodist church and the community of Royal, Iowa as a whole. When he had free time he loved playing golf and fishing at Okoboji. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Tammy (Michael) Montague of Nevada and Scot (Shanna) Reynolds of Round Rock, Texas, his grandchildren: Tasha (Jay) Eisenhower of Hutto, Texas, Michelle (Neil) Logue of Grimes, Iowa, Braydn Reynolds of Lincoln, Nebraska, Melissa (Daniel) Sprouse of Nevada, Iowa, Samantha Reynolds and Alexandra Reynolds both of Round Rock, Texas, his great-grandchildren: Dawson, Tyler and Noah, his first great-granddaughter due in May, and his close friends Janice and Ernie Stoermer of Royal, Iowa.In death, Les has rejoined his parents, his Hollywood Sweetheart Norma and his brothers Donald and Larry.
