Robert Schippers

Robert J. Schippers, Sr., 95, passed away peacefully at the Iowa Veterans Home on May 30, 2017 with his loving family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Iowa Veterans Home Chapel, with a public visitation held at 10:00 a.m. until the service. Robert was born on September 13, 1921 in Knoxville, Iowa to Joe and Marguerite (Bottenfield) Schippers. Robert attended Perry High School and graduated with the Class of 39. After high school Robert enlisted in the United States Navy and honorably served his country from 1942 until 1946. After his return from the military Robert worked for the Northwestern Railroad for 28 years. On January 31, 1945 in Perry, Iowa Robert was united in marriage to Bonnie Kinney. The two made their home in Marshalltown in 1954 and raised two children. Robert belonged to the Marshalltown Masonic Lodge for over 58 years and was a very active member. In Roberts free time he enjoyed collecting many different items including stamps, model trains, and Jim Beam Whiskey Decanters. When the weather was nice, Robert could be found outside in his garden trying to grow the largest tomato that he could. Left to cherish Roberts memory is his wife of 72 years, Bonnie; children, Robert Joe Jr. (Karen) Schippers and Pam (Gary) Nablo; grandchildren, Ashley (Rusty) Shore and Chad (Kelsey) Nablo; great-grandchildren, Garrett Shore, Kiptyn Shore and Skylar Nablo; and sister, Betty Jean Pittman. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Joe and Marguerite, a brother Harold, and a sister Isabelle.
