Born on March 23rd, 1938, in Iowa City, he was the son of Leona (Hively) and Israel Benjamin Schubert. He received his education in the Gladbrook Schools. Later in life, he was able to locate his biological father, Chauncy Sherman as well as five siblings Bob had. On November 18th, 1956, he was united in marriage to Ruth Wilson under the arch of her parents living room on Swayze Street. Marshalltown was always home after this union. Bob served our country honorably in the United States Navy for four years and a continuation of 18 years in the National Guard earning the nickname Pappy). He was a devoted 43 years employee of Dunham-Bush until retiring. For the past 15 years, he brightened childrens days as the bus driver of bus #29. He also was a man of faith, profession, country and community- a member of the 1st United Church of Christ, UAW Local #893, Teamsters Union #238, Post #46 American Legion, Post #839 VFW, a 25 year veteran of the Marshalltown City Council and was the founder in 1974 of the Iowa State Police Reserves Association. Because of his care of others, he was appointed to be guardians of those with no family. He was a hardworking dad who, besides Dunham-Bush, worked at 7-Up and Dons Johns. He enjoyed teaching first-aid, Boy Scouts, Little League, racing on the Marshalltown track and of course, was very well known for being one of Santas hand-picked assistants in the community. One cannot think of him without his contagious laugh. Left to cherish his memory are Ruth, his loving wife of 60 years, three children: Cynthia Cindy (Harold) Collins of Colorado Springs, CO, Bonnie (Roger) Engelkes of Grundy Center, IA, and Robert William (Holly) Schubert, Jr. of Casper, WY., daughter-in-law Julie Schubert of Osage, IA, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and his only sister, Janice Thomas of Camdenton, MO. In death, Bob rejoined his parents, his father, son Kelly Robert Schubert, brother Roger and his in-laws.
