Robert Sidney Sherman Jr., age 79, passed away on Monday, April 15, 2024, with his family by his side. Robert (Bob) was born on January 16, 1945 in West Union, IA. He lived with his family in Donnan, IA and the surrounding area. In 1951, the family moved to Lincoln. He attended Lincoln School and the Gladbrook School, until he graduated eighth grade.
Bob continued to live with his parents in Lincoln. He worked on the farms of his two brothers-in-law, and eventually helped other local farmers. He loved working on the farms. Bob also push mowed many lawns in Lincoln, and he mowed at the only speed he knew which was fast. Bob was honored with an article in the Waterloo Courier for his dedication for delivering the newspapers to his customers in Lincoln. He took this job very seriously. He delivered the paper for 16 years.
Bob’s pride and joy was putting up and taking down the American Flag for the Amvets every day. He was honored as Lincoln’s Citizen of the Year in 2001.
Bob enjoyed watching or listening to the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Twins. He could tell you every statistic on almost every player. He also enjoyed drinking a Pepsi. Bob had a passion for playing Solitaire and going uptown to play pepper with is friends at Larry’s Tap. He also loved his pet dogs over the many years.
Bob’s family held a special place in his heart. He loved when they would all get together. He will be missed by all for his twinkling, mischievous blue eyes, his hearty laugh, and his ability to cheat at Solitaire so openly.
Bob is survived by a sister, Judy Fink of Gladbrook and brother, Keith Sherman of Lincoln. He had eleven nieces and nephews, Dee (Brenda) Klinefelter, Craig (Connie) Klinefelter, Kim (Lloyd) Luck, Susan (Jeff) Kopsa, Kevan (Mona) Frank, Lisa Klinefelter, Diane Schulz, Lia (Jo) Schulz, Kristen Frank, Chris Klinefelter, Dylan Sherman, Anton Tomash. He had 19 great - nieces and nephews, 22 great - great nieces and nephews and one great – great - great niece.
In death Bob is reunited with his parents, Robert and Pauline (Reisner) Sherman; two sisters, Mary Frank and Carole Storjohan. Also, brothers-in law, Leon Schulz, Terry Fink, and Marvin Klinefelter.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 19, 2024 at Christ Lutheran Church in Gladbrook. Visitation will be held one hour prior. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery in Gladbrook.
