Robert “Bob” Speas, 82, of Marshalltown, passed away early in the morning of Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Southridge Specialty Care. Funeral services for Bob will take place on Monday, May 10 at 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Bob will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Garden following services. A visitation will be held one hour prior, beginning at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, May 10 at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born Robert Dale Speas on October 22, 1938 in Marshalltown, he was the son of Dale and Pearl (Barnhart) Speas. After graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1956, Bob went on to attend classes at MCC, followed by the University of Northern Iowa. After meeting the love of his life, Bonnie Ulrich, they were united in marriage on December 23, 1958 in Oskaloosa. Together they made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their four children. Bob was a hard worker, dedicating 38 years as a draftsman at Emerson – Fisher Controls before retiring. After retirement he worked for a time at People Rides. In his free time, Bob volunteered for Marshalltown Little League and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He enjoyed canoeing and going on cruises with their longtime friends. Family was very important to Bob and he especially enjoyed traveling to watch his grandchildren at all their athletic activities and dance competitions. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 62 years, Bonnie; his children: William “Bill” Speas of Marshalltown, John (Jeanne) Speas of Waterloo, Dawn (Todd) Gean of Ankeny and Anne (Joel) McKibben of West Des Moines; his grandchildren: Scott Mangrich, Michelle Mangrich (Paul Hoffman), Ryan Gean (Alexa Probst), Rachel (Watson) McKinney, Emily McKibben and Peter McKibben; great-grandchildren: Juniper Hoffman and Macalan McKinney; brother: James (Kathie) Speas and niece, Missy Speas Potter. Bob is preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Scott Speas.
