Robert Halverson Sr

Robert LeeRoy Halverson Sr, 82, of Marshalltown, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral services for Robert will be held on Friday, March 13, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will take place prior to the service from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family. Robert Halverson was born on July 9, 1932, to Elmer and Etta (Byers) Halverson in Quarry. Robert was the eighth out of thirteen siblings. Growing up was a constant struggle to maintain food and shelter. Early on, Robert honed his hunting, fishing and trapping skills. Robert was always a hard worker and easily found jobs. He served two years stateside in the United States Army. His marriage to Mary Ann Gardner gave them two sons, Robert Jr. and Howard Todd. He mixed his job at Lennox Industries with his love for farming and later ran his own heating and air-conditioning business. Later in life, he kept his passion for angling and could easily out fish most comers. He loved working with his hands and over the years built three new houses in the Quarry area. Left to honor his memory are his sons, Robert Jr. and Howard Todd; two sisters, Mary Lou (Mull) and Betty Lou (Overstake); and one brother, Lawrence (Barney) Halverson. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann.
