Robert “Bob” Streeter, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 12, 2024, in the comfort of his home.
Services for Bob will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 1:30 P.M. at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. A family-led celebration of Bob’s life will follow at The Old Timer in Marshalltown. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bob’s name may be directed to the Elks National Foundation. Robert Dean Streeter was born November 16, 1936, in Clay Center, Kansas. He was the oldest of four children born to Floyd and May (Nemnich) Streeter. Bob grew up in Clay Center where he graduated from Clay Center High School in the class of 1954. Out of high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served until being honorably discharged in 1958.
In 1962, Bob was united in marriage to Karen Mertens. They made their home in Marshalltown, Iowa and began their lives together raising three children, Lisa, Kevin, and Shawna. Bob worked for the railroad: Chicago Great-Western, Chicago North-Western and Union Pacific. Bob held many different positions until his retirement after 35 years of service. Bob and Karen later divorced after 32 years of marriage. In 1995, Bob was united in marriage to Beverly (Young), together they raised her three daughters. Beverly and Bob divorced after 28 years of marriage.
With his easy laugh and quick wit Bob made friends everywhere he went. He was very competitive. Bob would chuckle at winning in cards and be the first to help in time of need. Bob was a 50-year member of the Elks; Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and volunteered for the Iowa Veterans Home for 24 years. In his free time, Bob enjoyed going golfing, playing cards with friends, going fishing, hunting, and playing billiards. In his younger years, he played slow pitch softball and basketball actively.
Bob and Karen Streeter later reconciled, he is survived by her; his children, Lisa (Ed) Kasper of Roland, Iowa, Kevin Streeter of Roland, Iowa, and Shawna Groshong of Marshalltown, Iowa; his nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dorothy Pokorney of Kansas and Rita (Corky) Acker of Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and May Streeter; his brother, William Streeter; and brother-in-law, James Pokorney.
