Robert "Bob" Sutherland

Robert “Bob” Sutherland, 91, of Albion, Iowa, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 27, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his family. A celebration of life for Bob will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022 from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Bob and his family. Robert Burdette Sutherland was born February 28, 1931 to parents Leif and Idella (Graves) Sutherland in Liscomb, Iowa. He was the youngest of 15 children in the family. Bob attended school in Albion, Iowa and graduated in the class of 1950. Bob enlisted in the United States Army after graduating high school and served during the Korean War Conflict. He served and was later honorably discharged. During his time in the service, Bob was on a leave and was united in marriage to the love of his life Dorothy Thomas on December 23,1951. Bob and Dorothy began a family of their own raising their children Tia and Timothy. They also achieved the goal of building their forever home in Albion in 1961. Bob worked for Dunham-Bush as a foreman and eventually retired from the company on May 1,1997. In his free time, Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles, watching tv and hanging out with his family. He always had said he was a “festidius” man and was always frugal. Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his children Tia (Steve Swiger) Landas and Tim (Lynne) Sutherland; his grandchildren, Adam (Amie) Sutherland, Andy (Kristy Davis) Sutherland, Sara (Matt Coppela) Landas, Ryan Landas, Josh (Amanda) Conley, and Nate Sutherland; his great-grandchildren, Aaron Sutherland, Aidan Sutherland, and Mya Conley; his sister Fern Groeneveld; alongside numerous extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Leif and Idella Sutherland and his siblings.
