Robert Bob Workman, 66, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on March 13, 2012 at Westbrook Acres in Gladbrook, Iowa.Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service. Full military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Robert and his family.Robert Allen Workman was born on May 12, 1945 in Atlantic, Iowa; he was the son of Willis Rex and Rita Cecelia (Crawford) Workman. Bob attended the Atlantic School District and graduated with the class of 1964. Bob served our country honorably in the United States Navy from 1968 to 1972. He then attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1975. During May 1975 January 1976, Bob was the recreation supervisor in Marshalltown. He then left Marshalltown and accepted a position as Activity Director for the State of Iowa American Legion. On August 23, 1976, Bob was united in marriage to Connie Davis in Seattle, Washington. Bob and Connie decided to move to Marshalltown in October 1977 as Bob accepted a position as Recreation Superintendent. In 1981, he became the Director of the department and held that position until retiring in 2007. During Bobs tenure, accomplishments include South 6th Street Softball Complex and helping with many national tournaments, the bike path, Aquatic Center, Trees Forever, involving in bringing the first barbeque championship, two Ragbrais that stopped overnight, developed new parks, and final project was the new community building at Riverview Park. He was very involved in the Iowa Park and Recreation Association serving as president. Bob has been a member of the Marshalltown Kiwanis, American Legion and VFW. In his leisure time, he enjoyed working in the yard, walking the bike path, bike rides, fishing, hunting, golfing, trips to Estes Park , CO and Okoboji.Left to cherish Bobs memory are his wife of 35 years, Connie; his children: Tim (Kari) Workman of Reunion, Colorado and Brian (Teena) Workman of Salisbury, Maryland; his grandchildren: Caleb and Adam Workman; his brother Jim (Sorie) Workman of Aurora, Colorado.Bob was preceded in death by his parents: Willis and Rita; his mother-in-law and father-in-law: Clifford and LaMere Davis.
