Born on June 21, 1967 in Marshalltown, he was the son of Robert L. and Sandra (Gibson) Slifer, Sr. He graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1985. In 1987, he was united in marriage to Jenny Callahan. They were blessed with their son Gavin. Later, he was married to Carol Gibson and to this union, two daughters Lindsey and Rachel were born. Rod was employed making patio doors and windows at Jeld-Wen in Grinnell at the time of his death. Rod was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan and treasured his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, playing darts (by his own rules!) and pool, and in younger years camping and going to Canada as a family. He was quite artistic and enjoyed the company of friends. He will be greatly missed. Left to cherish his memory are his son Gavin (fianc Hannah) of Melbourne, daughters Lindsey and Rachel with their mother Carol, grandchildren Aashlyn and Dayton, siblings: Robert Slifer, Jr. Bo of Wellsburg, Terry (Renee) Slifer of Newton, Cheryl Witte (Robert Schulmeister) of Oelwein and Dennis (Maria) Slifer of Ocala, Florida as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In death, he rejoined his grandparents and parents.
