Rodney Wayne Dutton was born March 17, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa at the St. Thomas Mercy Hospital. He was the second of six children born to Wendell and Esther (Krough) Dutton. Rod grew up in Clemons, Iowa and graduated from West Marshall High School in 1971.

On April 7, 1979 he was married to the love of his life, Dodie Anderson in Jewell, Iowa. Rod and Dodie raised three children, Cressant, Brandon, and Kyley. In 2018, Rod retired from JBS after working almost 36 years. When his kids were younger, Rod was involved as a coach in the Marshalltown Little League and Marshalltown Girls Softball Association. He spent many years playing fastpitch softball. From a young age, Rod was an avid coon hunter and part of Central Iowa Coon Hunters Association. One of his proudest accomplishments was receiving 16th place (3rd Overall High Scoring Female) at the 1982 American Coon Hunters Association World Championship hunting his favorite dog Spring. In his free time, Rod enjoyed all things outdoors. He loved to go fishing, camping, hunting, and mushroom hunting in the spring. He was an explorer and loved to take the road less traveled to discover destinations unknown. Most importantly he loved being a grandpa. He took pride in being in the bleachers (or coaching), rarely missing a game or tournament. Many baseball and softball players learned to love the game because of the impact Rod had on them. He enjoyed attending all of the grandkid’s sporting events, watching sports, telling jokes, and being with family.

Those left to remember and cherish his memory are his wife, Dodie Dutton; his children, son-in-law Tim Borton, Brandon (Tina) Dutton and Kyley (Bryan) Leger; grandchildren, Austin Borton (Rachel), Matthew Borton (Aly), Ethan Borton (Serena), Austin Moorman, Tayven Dutton, Tasha Dutton, Maximus Leger, Quinten Leger and Hudson Leger; siblings, Vicki Huntrods and Wendi Dutton; alongside numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cressant Borton; his parents, Wendell and Esther Dutton; step-father, Gilbert Kester; brothers, Rick Dutton, Roger Dutton and Russell Dutton; paternal and maternal grandparents; as well as his mother and father-in-law, Leonard and June Anderson.
