Rodney McTurk, age 84, of Marshalltown, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 13th, at the Iowa River Hospice Home.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 18th, at the Faith Open Bible Church with Pastor Curtis Jarrell officiating. There will be no visitation. Born on October 10th, 1938, he was the son of George and Alma (Sonkens) McTurk. He graduated from the Beaman High School’s Class of 1957 and soon enlisted in the United States Army National Guard.
Rodney was employed as a truck driver all of his life, retiring from Crouse Cartage Company. He enjoyed baseball- especially the Chicago Cubs and Minnesota Twins, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He attended the Faith Open Bible Church alongside his wife, Becky.
On February 5th, 1989, in Marshalltown, he was united in marriage to Rebecca “Becky” Vasquez. The two made a wonderful couple and was blessed with a blended family of five children.
Left to cherish his memory are Becky, his wife of 34 years; five children- Tam (Bill) Bartlett of Urbandale, Lynne (Michael) Henson of Sun City, AZ, Christopher McTurk of Des Moines, Jill (Shawn) Simatovich of Garwin and Maria (Richard) Boone of Choctaw, OK; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a sister, Connie (Allen) Hansen of Reinbeck.
In death, he rejoined his parents and a sister, Betty Case.
