Roger Martin Dreessen, 82, of Spring Hill, Kansas, formerly of Luling, Texas, Marshalltown and Gladbrook, Iowa, passed away peacefully to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, July 27, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 19, 1934 in Gladbrook, Iowa. He was the son of Martin and Hilda Dreessen. He married Charlotte Ann Nichols on August 22, 1984. Charlotte and Roger made their home together in Austin and Luling, Texas. They recently moved to Spring Hill, Kansas to enjoy their retirement years and family. Roger graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1952 and successfully completed his military career after serving in the Korean War with the United States Air Force. He was proud of his service and frequently regaled stories as he reminisced. He then attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (Truman) in Kirksville, MO and graduated with a degree in business. Roger worked at Maulsby Electric in Marshalltown. He was broker/owner of Century 21 Dreessen Real Estate in Marshalltown. Roger was a prominent member of the Marshalltown Optimists, Jaycees, Kiwanis, Lions, Chamber of Commerce and an elder at Central Christian Church. He enjoyed raising his three daughters and attending their many activities. After moving to Austin, Texas, he worked for the Texas Department of Transportation before his retirement. He then enjoyed working as a substitute teacher around the Luling, Texas area. Roger enjoyed fishing in Canada and Minnesota, ranching, camping, serving others through ChiRho throughout Texas. He was a Deacon at Central Baptist Church of Luling where he held many positions and shared in many outreach programs. He and Charlotte made wonderful memories through their travels, supporting their church and faith, attending their grandchildrens events and made many, many friends along the way. Roger is survived by his wife, Charlotte Dreessen of Spring Hill, KS; his sister, Elaine Thede of Gladbrook, IA; his mother-in-law Wilma Norman of Iowa Falls, IA; daughter Tracy Dalton (Randy) of Fordland, MO, granddaughter Chloe Vaughan (Jason) and great granddaughters Peyton and Emily of Walnut Grove, MO; daughter Sherri Watson (Bryan), grandson Eric and twin granddaughters, Sara and Anna of Olathe, KS; daughter Marcy McAdams (Harold) of Belton, MO, stepdaughters Lori LaBate (Joseph) of Chesterton, IN, granddaughter Nicole (Jack) McDonnell and two great grandsons, Keegan and Judson; granddaughter Brooke (Marvin) Miller and great granddaughter Aubrey; granddaughter Lauren (Matt) Morgan; stepdaughter Stephanie Nichols of Round Rock, TX, her son David Myers and twin great granddaughters Sophia and Anabelle and many sister and brother in laws, cousins, nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his son Stephen Roger and daughter Bethana Faith, stepson Jerry Nichols and Charlottes father, Harold Norman. A celebration of his life will be held at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook, Iowa at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2017. A graveside ceremony will be held following the service. Immediately following the graveside, all are invited back to the church for light refreshments. The church is located at 201 Johnston Street, Gladbrook, Iowa, 50635. Roger will be laid to rest at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Gladbrook, Iowa.
