Roger Jay, 71, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, August 5th, at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center while in care of his family and the Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, August 10th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Conrad Lundberg of the First Baptist Church officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with a time of fellowship and refreshments to follow at the Moose Lodge. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Roger and his family. Ph 844-1234. Born on September 17th, 1935, at Clemons, Iowa, he was the son of Robert and Minnie (Meyers) Jay. He graduated from the Clemons High Schools Class of 1953. On June 30th, 1956, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann Kelso at the Baptist Temple in Marshalltown. They made Marshalltown their home where he was employed at Gra-Iron Foundry for 34 years until their closing and then 12 years at Donaldsons in Grinnell until his retirement. Mr. Jay was a former member of the Elks Lodge in Marshalltown, the Marshalltown Mens Bowling Association and coached and umpired Little League. He enjoyed golf, fishing, playing cards (pinochle, 500 and pepper), his family, and hunting. Left to mourn his loss are his loving wife of 51 years, Jo Ann, three children: Cathy Jo (Paul) Calkins of Dillon, Rick (Kathy) Jay of Marshalltown and Roger, Jr. of Marshalltown, seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and five step-great grandchildren (and one on the way), his brother Bobbie (Veronica) Jay of Marshalltown, the Kelso family, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his parents, brother William, sister Lucille Cox and granddaughter Stacie Calkins.
