Roland Louis DeVilder, 78, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life for Ron will be held by the family on Sunday October 30th from 1 – 3pm with a luncheon at the American Legion in Marshalltown. Roland DeVilder was born on April 1, 1944 in Grinnell to Lewis and Grace (Steiert) DeVilder. He graduated from BGM High School in 1962. On January 12, 1996, Ron was united in marriage to Gretchen Schnitzler in Marshalltown. Ron lived and worked on the farm and in his later years, worked construction at Manatt’s and InRoads Construction for his nephews, Steven and Brian Armstrong. He enjoyed playing Roly Bowly, which he has several trophies from. He also liked bowling and going to the casino to play slots.
Ron is survived by his wife of 26 years, Gretchen; daughters: Sandra (Cliff) Piatt of Hartford and Lori (Ryan) Cronbaugh of Hartwick; step-children: Mike (Jodi) Abrahams of Le Grand, Danny Abrahams of Liscomb, Greg (Karen) Spillman of Marshalltown, Steve Spillman of Marshalltown, Bobby (Kathi) Abrahams of Albion and Kerry Abrahams of Marshalltown. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; siblings: Bill (Yvonne) Armstrong of Deep River and Irene Gercke of Le Grand, along with several nieces and nephews.
Ron is preceded in death by his son: Danny DeVilder; parents, Lewis and Grace and step-children: David Spillman, Becky Madison and Debbie Hodson.
