Ronald L. Kelso, 76, of Commerce, California, formerly of Marshalltown, died suddenly on Friday, June 15th, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 20th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Born on October 6th, 1935, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Leslie and Loreta Olsie (Wallen) Kelso. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School and soon enlisted to serve our country honorably in the United States Marines Corps. Mr. Kelso served 16 years and was stationed in Viet Nam twice before receiving his honorable discharge as a Sergeant. Upon returning to the states, he worked as a warehouse manager for Kennametals- an aerospace supplier. He enjoyed bowling, softball, watching old westerns (especially John Wayne) and time with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his sons- Bill Davis of Fountain Valley, CA and Jeff Davis of Irvine, CA, grandchildren Mark and Courtney, great-grandchildren Rose and Ethan, his former wife Mary Jolene (Redding) Szczutkowski, and siblings- Jeanne Collins of Indianola, Ken Kelso of Georgetown, Texas, Sally Freese of Marshalltown, Colleen Gessel of Encino, CA, JoAnn Jay of Marshalltown and Connie Calvetti of Las Vegas, as well as many nieces and nephews. In death, Ronald rejoined his parents and siblings- Marion Kelso, Lois Spurling, Shirley Larson, Leslie Kelso, Jr., and daughter-in-law Maureen Kelso.
