The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Ron and his family. Ph. 641-844-1234. Born on March 6th, 1936 in Greene, Iowa, he was the son of Verle and Thelma (Funnell) Barth. He graduated from the Greene High Schools class of 1954. On January 1, 1954, he was united in marriage to Charlene Slocum at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Greene. They made their home in Greene and Mason City until moving to Marshalltown in 1966. He was employed in the grocery, insurance and carpentry fields until being hired at Swifts where he worked for 31 faithful years until retirement. Ron was a member of Our Savior Lutheran and the Moose Lodge. Every springtime, you could count on him taking the week off to attend the state wrestling tournament in Des Moines. He loved high school sports (especially whatever team played Dowling!), traveling, visiting the mountains, watching the Hawkeyes, organizing the tools in the garage, making sure there were no tire tracks compacting snow on the driveway and above all, treasured his family. He was a natural born piano player and when the choice of a favorite meal was offered, he would always choose Smoky Ds Bar-B-Que in Ankeny for the ribs. Left to cherish his memory are Charlene, his loving wife of 59 years, his son Steve (Kathy) Barth of Ankeny, daughter Ranae (Don) Myers of Sandpoint, Idaho; six grandchildren- Stacey Medellin, Shannon (Tim) Mettleman, Joe Maddox, Kayla Colyer, Jeff Myers, and Karlee Barth; two great-granddaughters- Molly and Suzanna; his sisters- Verlene (Floyd) Senne of Allison, IA, Diane Osier of Greene, IA and brother John (Carol) Barth of Greene as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. In death, Ron rejoined his parents, his daughter Deb Maddox, brother-in-law Jim Osier and nephew Greg Senne.
