Ronald D. Eggers, 75, of Marshalltown, died Tuesday morning, March 19, 2013, at the State Center Manor. His death came peacefully while under the compassionate care of the Manor and Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dillon, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born Ronald Dean Eggers on March 12, 1938, in State Center. He was the son of Ralph and Helen (Weuve) Eggers. He graduated from the Clemons High School Class of 1955. While in high school, Ron excelled at baseball and participated in the American Junior Legion Baseball League. Their team won the State Tournament in 1955. Ron later joined the Marshalltown Anson semi-pro baseball team in the last years of their existence. Ron was scouted and tried out for the Cleveland Indians. In July of 1958, he was united in marriage to Donna Shipley at St. Johns Lutheran Church in State Center. To this union two sons were born: Tim and Mike. Donna passed away in 1970. In 1973, Ron married Jeanette Cochran, and to this union a son, Brian, was born. Ron was passionate about the careers he had in life. He began at KIOWA and later worked for Marshalltown Trowel. Ron won the title of #1 Distributor in the nation for Salad Master Cookware in 1975. He also earned recognition in sales while working for Master Guard Fire Protection. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church north of State Center, and was a head usher there. Ron was also a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon. Many will remember Rons love of fishing and baseball, how he loved to visit with people. He enjoyed his radio, especially when it was tuned to WHO 1040 A.M. Left to cherish his memory are his three sons: Tim (Susan) Eggers of State Center; Mike Eggers of LeGrand; and Brian Eggers of Marshalltown; his grandchildren: Diana, Laura, Cierra, Matthew and Jaime Eggers; brother, Larry (Ruth) Eggers of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and many friends and acquaintances. In death, Ron rejoins his wife Donna, his parents, brother, Gayle, and sister, Bev Johnson.
