Ronald 'Ron' Funke

Ronald James Funke, 85, of Waterloo, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services for Ron will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 30, 2017, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor John Whitehead officiating. Public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2017, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Rons family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Ron and his family. Ronald James Funke was born on June 29, 1931, in State Center, Iowa, the son of Albert and Emma (Krausman) Funke. He was raised and educated in the Marshall County school district, graduating from High School. Following high school, Ron honorably served his Country in the United States Navy from December 30, 1950 to November 2, 1954 as a 3rd Class Engineman. On September 4, 1955, Ronald was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lily Mae Kiser at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. From this union three children were born: Ricky, Sue Ann, and Doug. Ron was a dedicated employee, spending 22 years working for Hy-Vee Food Stores as a Meat Manager. He was a proud member of the American Legion and National Rifle Association. Ron had a passion for watching Iowa sports, driving through George Wyth State Park, fishing, being outdoors, and watching his granddaughters play volleyball. Left to cherish Rons memory are his children: Ricky James Funke of Fort Worth, TX and Sue Ann Burnett of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren: Aerielle Aurora Burnett and Ashley Victoria Burnett; siblings: Robert Bob Funke and Edith LaPoore; also Barbs and Shadow. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lily Mae Funke; parents: Albert and Emma Funke; and one son: Doug LeRoy Funke.
