Ronald Ron Koch, 73, of Conrad, died late Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Oakview Nursing Home while in the care of Iowa River Hospice and his loving family at his side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at LeGrand Friends Church with Reverend Alan Mullikin and Pastor Bobby Shomo officiating. Burial will be in the Conrad Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family. He was the son of Raymond and Gladys (Harders) Koch. Ron graduated from Conrad High School in 1954, where he received the Vic Powers Award for athletics. He served our country proudly in the US Army, joining in 1956 and serving in Fort Lewis, WA and Germany. He married his first wife, Ann, on October 26, 1956. He later married Carol Rhodes on June 24, 1988. Ron has been a resident of Conrad since 1948.Ron owned and operated the Standard station in Conrad, worked as a custodian at the Conrad High School, worked as a Culligan man, and also worked for the Beaman Co-op, where he started the LP gas business. He then started his own business, Koch LP, in July of 1987. He sold the business due to health reasons in 2003 to Dennis Karsjens.Left to cherish Rons memory as his wife, Carol, of Conrad; his children Steven Gregory Koch of Marshalltown, Alesia Diane Koch (LaVern Novotny) of Chelsea, and Lori (Jaime) Cantu of Marshalltown; his grandson, Jaime Bubba Cantu Jr; his step-granddaughter, Allysha Isbel; his brother Melvin (Doris) Koch of Conrad; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and business associates.In death, he has rejoined his parents, his brother LeRoy, who died in 1984, and his birth father, Edward Vajgrt.
