Ronald Dean Propst, 71, of Tama, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Iowa River Hospice Home with his loving family by his side. Funeral services for Dean will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Boyle officiating. Public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 29, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home, where Deans family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Dean and his family. Ronald Dean Propst was born on March 24, 1946 in Osceola, Iowa; the son of William and Mildred (McNichols) Propst. He was raised and educated around the Osceola area, graduating from high school with the class of 1964. Following his graduation, Dean honorably served his country by joining the United States Air Force. On September 1, 1972, Dean was united in marriage to the love of his life, Cheryl Pruisner, at Washington Park in Waterloo, Iowa. From this union two children were born, Travis and Matt. Dean had a very colorful work history, was never afraid to learn new things. He worked at Prosthetics Rehab, drove a semi, Tama Meat Packing plant, Jeld-Wen, Amana, Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance, Per Mar Security, Car Quest and K&M Sanitation. Dean had a passion for fishing, hunting, playing softball, golfing, bowling, reading, watching his two favorite teams play, Dodgers and the Rams, as well as going out for his morning coffee with his friends. Deans main passion in life was spending time with his family and friends. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Cheryl Propst; children, Travis (Chris) Propst and Matt Propst; grandchildren: Tanner Hathaway, Lindsey (Cody Schwarck) Kriegel, Josh Kriegel and Nick Kriegel; one great-granddaughter, Ava Schwarck; siblings: Bill (Connie) Propst, Ed (Sue) Propst, Mary (Ronnie) Hays and Dennis Propst; sisters-in-law, Vicki (Dick) Koehler, Terri (Ron) Best, and Sonja Pruisner; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother Bob Propst.
