Ronald H. Rice, 63, of Marshalltown Iowa, died Friday, August 1, 2008 in Baltimore City, Maryland. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday August 8, 2008 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. He will be laid to rest in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the Mitchell Family Funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Ph 641-844-1234 Born on May 25, 1945, in Jefferson Iowa, he was the son of Howard and Mary Joan (Johnson) Rice. He attended school in Glidden, Iowa. On October 19, 1980, he married Anna Katharina Kernes in Elk Pointe, South Dakota. After marriage, they resided in Des Moines and Marshalltown. Ron was a self-employed truck driver. Ron was a quiet man who loved his grandchildren and being with them. He also enjoyed dirt-track car racing, cars, trucks, western movies, country music, and he loved to fish. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 27 years, Anna, of Marshalltown; his children, Ronda(Alan) Dehning of Cresco, IA, Deanna Rice and Kathy Rice, both of Cedar Rapids, IA, Tom(Jodi)Leeper and Bethany(Jorge) Fernandez, all of Marshalltown, and Rich (Misty) Leeper of Melbourne; his 20 grandchildren; his 7 great-grandchildren, with the 8th on the way; his mother, Mary Rice; siblings Marilyn Wilson of Iowa City, David(Shirley) Rice of Churdan, Suzanne(Charles) Schulte of Cedar Rapids, and Timothy (Sheri) Rice of Marengo. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard, a brother, Butch Rice and great grandson, Chandler Gabrielson.
